Svartsö guide

On Svartsö, you'll find an authentic archipelago atmosphere and access to everything from restaurants to a country store and glamping.
The island offers open meadows for hiking, beautiful inland lakes, sea inlets, and cliffs for swimming. If you want to explore the island’s 14 kilometers of gravel roads, renting a bike is a great option—or simply stroll at your own pace.
Getting here
Svartsö is located between Möja and Ljusterö in the Stockholm archipelago, just south of Ingmarsö and Edö. The easiest way to get here is by private boat, but you can also take the SL bus from Slussen. In that case, get off at Boda brygga or Lillsved on Värmdö and then take the Waxholms ferry the rest of the way to Svartsö and Alvik's jetty.
On Svartsö you’ll find:
Bistro Sågen
Sitting at Bistro Sågen on a warm summer evening is hard to beat. Here, you’re served local ingredients while enjoying the cozy atmosphere. Sågen also hosts many music events and other happenings—so make sure to check the calendar on their website. If you're a group of more than 8 people, it’s a good idea to reserve a table. A fun activity to try is Sågen’s goat walk, which starts at the bistro and includes coffee and treats. Read more here.
Svartsö Krog
A genuine archipelago spot with plenty of charm and a beautiful garden, Svartsö Krog is located just a stone’s throw from the guest pier. Enjoy your meal outdoors in a lovely natural setting. Local produce and delicacies are served here, along with a welcoming vibe for both kids and adults. For opening hours, check here.
Archipelago hotel and hostel
One of Svartsö’s advantages is the wide range of accommodation options for all tastes and budgets. Svartsö Archipelago Hotel and Hostel offers both half- and full-board stays for individuals and groups, while the Archipelago Hotel offers hotel-standard rooms with private bathrooms, showers, and a delicious breakfast—and direct access to the surrounding forest right outside your door. The hostel offers simpler rooms, but with Wi-Fi and private entrances too. Read more here.
Glamping in the wild
Love being in nature but also enjoy comfort? At Svartsö Logi, you can book a glamping stay—meaning stylishly furnished hotel-style canvas tents. What sets this glamping experience apart and makes it especially popular is that each tent has its own private terrace by the water. The lodging package includes a delicious seasonal dinner at Svartsö Krog and a well-stocked breakfast basket delivered to your tent.
Sunset sauna
At Svartsö Strand, you can enjoy a sauna session with a view of the open sea and sunset. The sauna, located at the Norra Svartsö steamboat jetty, fits up to 10 people and is electrically heated. Read more and book here.
Culture and art
For those wanting to enjoy some culture, Svartsö offers plenty—art, concerts, lectures, and exhibitions. One highlight is the culture week at the community center in July, when local artists display their work.
Svartsö Country Store
Svartsö has a well-stocked shop with fresh vegetables and baked goods. You'll find products from local farmers and producers, and it also serves as a pickup point for DHL, UPS, Apoteket (pharmacy), and Systembolaget (the Swedish alcohol monopoly). You can also rent bikes here.
Hiking along the Archipelago Trail
If you'd like to explore the archipelago on foot, part of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail runs through Svartsö. This trail, which stretches across 20 islands, helps you discover the region, and on Svartsö it passes the local farm, the idyllic school, and scenic sea views.
Don´t miss
Nearby Tröskö-Storö, located between Möja and Svartsö, is also worth a visit. Here you’ll find sheltered bays, nature paths, and beautiful meadows. You can reach Tröskö-Storö by archipelago boat, private boat, or water taxi.
