There is now a new way to hike in the archipelago – discover the natural heritage and unique landscape by venturing out on the Stockholm Archipelago Trail.
The Stockholm Archipelago Trail helps you choose your own difficulty level for the hike. Each trail is marked as Easy, Medium, or Challenging – and no matter which one you choose, you will be treated to beautiful nature and unique experiences. With the Stockholm Archipelago Trail, you can easily find the marked trails and get helpful information about accessibility, picnic areas, accommodations, and travel options to reach the trail.
Different Difficulty Levels
For those who prefer an easy trail, you can find this, for example, on Brottö or Rånö. Here, the terrain is easier to walk, and you mostly follow gravel roads. You will experience archipelago idyll while the hike doesn't demand too much from you or your companions. For the more experienced hiker, there's the trails on Nåttarö. Here, you arrive at the pier and then follow the trail through occasionally somewhat challenging terrain along smooth cliffs, cozy sandy beaches, and enchanting forests.
Coming Soon
More islands will soon be part of the trail – including Arholma, Lidö, Furusund, Blidö, Yxlan, Finnhamn, Ingmarsö, Brottö, Svartsö, Möja, Sandhamn, Grinda, Runmarö, Nämdö, Ornö, Fjärdlång, Utö, Ålö, Rånö, Nåttarö, and Landsort. Plenty to experience, varied nature and easy to find new favorites.
Bring What You Need
When hiking in the archipelago, there are a few things that could be especially useful to bring. Dress according to the weather – preferably in layers, so you can adjust as needed. Make sure to have a fully charged phone, bring plenty of water, and pack something to eat that quickly boosts your energy. Blister bandages are also highly recommended.
Create Your Challenge
A fun way to experience the Stockholm Archipelago Trail is to set a goal with family or friends and decide how far you want to walk each year. Plan how many islands you want to visit, how many kilometers to walk per day, and how many overnight stays you want to do. Then, it's time to start planning and to go out and enjoy the beautiful archipelago together.
